Research Paper Proposal

Reflection: For this paper I decided research smartphone addiction. I was interested in this topic since we are still currently in lockdown and all we have to entertain ourselves are our devices. Is it possible for someone to become addicted through the constant use of their devices for entertainment?

Cellphone/Device Addiction

The topic I would like to write my research paper on is cellphone/device addiction. This is an important topic to talk about because it seems like we’ve become blind to this issue. This involves our society since a good chunk of the population has access to electronic devices such as smartphones, computers, gaming consoles, and television. Even young kids who are growing up with these devices in hand already find themselves attached and possibly addicted to their electronic devices. With the invention of electronic devices, they have become incredibly popular over the years to the point where it’s now the center of our lives. We can use them for things like playing games, listening, to music, getting information, and many other uses. These devices are convenient, easy to use, and accessible to most of our population, which makes it easier for someone to become addicted to them. Addiction can lead to people having a harder time socializing and functioning normally in public. Things like smartphones are amazing inventions that make many things in life easier, but a convenience can also become a reliance and in time, an addiction. We now find ourselves in quarantine with nothing much to do. A lot of people will start using their electronic devices to pass time, take classes, and work from home.

I already know that we are still in a technological age where we are still coming up with new inventions that have been mostly been produced for everyone’s entertainment. I am also aware of the reason why smartphones were able to become one of those things people say they can’t live without. Something that I need to know is what part of the smartphone do people become addicted to, the entertainment value or its’ overall convenience and ease of use? At the end of this paper I plan to offer some ways in which you can reduce the chance of becoming addicted.
